]> Vauthier collected both plants and insects in Brazil. He authored several books, e.g., "Description of a new species of arachnides of the genus Epeira, of M. Walckenaer" (1825). Papavero (Essays on the history of Neotropical Dipterology 1: 144. 1971) remarks: "Nothing is known about the life of Vauthier. He arrived in Rio de Janeiro (SF-23, 43-23a) in December 1831 ... Finally, he returned to France, arriving at the port of Toulon on 21 May 1833". Dan H. Nicolson (US; pers. comm.) speculates that "Vauthier" could be A. C. Vauthier, an illustrator for Achille Richard (= Vauthier, Antoine-Charles (Paris 1790-ca. 1850)). Roland Mogn (pers. comm.) agrees with Dan H. Nicolson. "Vauthier has drawn many animals : kiwi, sea elephant, panda, Missisipi tangara" (fide Roland Mogn). Eponymy: as many as 40 species names honor Vauthier.
