Sponsored by Sherard and others to collect in Carolina, Florida and Bahamas 1722-1726. Returned to England 1726 to live at Hoxton, London, where he worked for the nursery of Thomas Fairchild. Best-known for his exquisitely executed watercolours for his Natural history of Carolina, Florida and Bahama Islands, the originals of which were purchased by King George III in 1768, and are still in the Royal Library at Windsor.
